Shifts: Understanding Conflict Escalation & De-escalation

Conflict is a dynamic interaction between people. Sometimes the interaction gets worse (“escalates” or “degenerates”) and sometimes the interaction improves (“de-escalates” or “regenerates”). Through this program, participants learn to analyze what contributes to the degeneration and regeneration of conflict interaction, by studying video and transcripts of conflict interaction.

Participants learn to identify “shifts” in the quality of interaction as they occur, and also how to support positive shifts in interaction.
